PROGRAM INFO
The new Graduate Certificate in Clean Energy and Sustainability (CES) will provide participants with the skills and knowledge needed to play a more effective role in today’s society. It comprises four courses (12 credits), including an internship/practicum in a suitable setting, and is open to all students with an undergraduate degree, who can demonstrate relevant competence and interests, either through coursework, work experience, volunteering, or otherwise. It will help position students at the leading edge of the clean energy transformation that will enhance the region’s competitiveness and advance the goal of sustainability. The certificate includes several new courses developed specifically for this program, and other courses have been revised to include more content related to climate change, clean energy, and sustainability.
This Certificate is one of five new interdisciplinary programs in Clean Energy and Sustainability that will equip “green and white collar” professionals, policymakers, and business managers for the transition to a clean energy economy. Designed for both students and professionals, these new offerings blend up-to-date expertise, theory and practice to meet the demands of a transition to a sustainable world, where innovation and leadership are paramount.
UMB’s College of Management (CM) and the Department of Environmental, Earth, and Ocean Sciences (EEOS) partnered to create these four initiatives, which feature coursework and collaborative engagement with area businesses, non-profit and social enterprise organizations, and other groups committed to building a more sustainable world. The Center for Sustainable Enterprise and Regional Competitiveness (SERC) serves as overall coordinator.
