Environmental Studies

Mount Holyoke

PROGRAM INFO

The study of environmental problems is inherently interdisciplinary. One cannot understand their origin, impact, or potential solutions without analyzing the behavior of natural systems as well as their interaction with economic, political, and cultural factors. The environmental studies major provides students with an appreciation of this interdisciplinary nature of environmental issues and includes courses from the humanities, natural sciences, and social sciences. The program is concerned with the interactions between people and their environment and the effects the environment has on people.

The Program in Environmental Studies strives to provide students with excellent educational opportunities, from a strong curriculum to first-rate computer and laboratory facilities. Students are encouraged to explore independent research and summer research possibilities with our faculty.

Students graduating with a degree in environmental studies have traveled widely varying career and educational paths–from excellent graduate programs to high-profile environmental advocacy organizations.
