This certificate provides engineers and scientists with rigorous but practical grounding in the fundamentals of renewable energy systems for design, research, development, and manufacture. The certificate is part of a long-standing interdisciplinary graduate degree program in renewable energy engineering with experienced faculty. The courses address topics ranging from green building technology (basic insulation and efficiency, passive solar heating and cooling, daylighting, solar hot water) to photovoltaic and wind systems, solar electrolyzers and fuel cells to stochastic process modeling of irradiation.
UMass Lowell is a leader in graduate certificate education. Graduate certificates provide focused information and expertise to practitioners seeking to better meet the complex and changing requirements of their work. In most cases, graduate certificate course credit may be applied to a master’s degree program. Most certificates consist of four three-credit courses.
Graduate certificate programs are designed for students holding a baccalaureate degree in a field related to the certificate program. The application fee is $50, and no graduate record exam (GRE) is required.
